Balance of Power (BOP)
The Balance of Power indicator measures the market strength of buyers versus sellers by assessing the ability of each to drive prices to an extreme level.
Calculation: BOP is calculated using the formula: [ BOP = rac{Close - Open}{High - Low} ]
Interpretation:
- If BOP > 0, it indicates bullish sentiment as buyers are able to drive the price above the midpoint of the candlestick range.
- If BOP < 0, it indicates bearish sentiment as sellers are able to drive the price below the midpoint of the candlestick range.
- Confirmation of Trends: BOP can be used to confirm trends identified by other technical indicators.
- Divergence Analysis: Divergences between BOP and price movements can signal potential trend reversals.
- Subjectivity: Interpretation of BOP can be subjective and requires understanding of market dynamics.
- Whipsaws: BOP may produce false signals during choppy or sideways markets.
- Confirmation Tool: Use BOP as a confirmation tool in conjunction with other technical indicators.
- Divergence Analysis: Look for divergences between BOP and price movements to anticipate potential trend reversals.
